RLJE Films and Shudder’s slasher “Clown in a Cornfield,” based on Adam Cesare’s novel of the same name, will screen exclusively in drive-ins across the United States for the weekend of May 2-3. The drive-in exclusive release precedes the “Clown in a Cornfield” nationwide theatrical release on May 9.

“Clown in a Cornfield,” will play at drive-in chains including West Wind, Four Brothers and Galaxy, with attendees receiving a limited edition “Clown in a Cornfield” poster while supplies last. The film, directed by Eli Craig and co-written by Craig and Carter Blanchard, made its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film and TV festival.

The film follows Quinn (Katie Douglass) and her father Glenn (Carson MacCormac), who move to the quiet town of Kettle Springs looking for a fresh start. Instead, according to a press release, they discover “a fractured community that has fallen on hard times after the treasured Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. As the locals bicker amongst themselves and tensions boil over, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time.”

Aaron Abrams, Will Sasso and Kevin Durand also star. “Clown in a Cornfield” is produced by “Smile” producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey alongside John Fischer for Temple Hill Entertainment. The 96-minute slasher is rated R for “Bloody horror violence, language throughout and teen drinking”. The “Clown in a Cornfield” novel, on which the film is based, spawned two sequels: “Clown in a Cornfield II: Frendo Lives” and “Clown in a Cornfield III: The Church of Frendo.”
